Galaxy 1997 Tdi Chugging At Idle And Juddering When Driving At Low Spe

hi. im new to this????

i have a galaxy 1997 tdi.

when at idle it chuggs and when driving at low speed its juddering??? when you put your foot down for more speed its fine???

also the glow plug light is flashing?

any ideas please?

glowplug light flashing (engine management light) - first port of call check the switch(s) on the brake/clutch pedal - if its got cruise control - does it work (non working may indicate a problem with the switches, if the switch is on all the time it may well be sending contrary signals to the ecu, may give you problems driving)

no cruise control.

checked and wd40 all the switches but light still flashing and chugging at idle and juddering at low speed?

ive been reading other posts and could the problem be with the MAF???

Steve ..... I would tend to agree with Nik on this one and wd40'ing the switch might not solve the problem. Have you checked the operation of the brake lights properly? If you want to check the MAF out, disconnect it electrically and then see if the problem disappears. If it does improve then you can safely assume the MAF is at fault.

the first thing i done (after reading previous posts) was to check the operation of the brake lights and there all working fine?

also i have disconnected the MAF, but it doesnt make any difference? the problems are still there??

Could still be the switch and I would start by replacing it as they're not expensive but what you really need is someone near to you with VAG-COM to list the fault codes stored. This will point you in the right direction.

ive just been out in it and noticed that it seems to be holding back on the power?

i bet fords charge a fortune to read the fault codes?

is there anywhere else that do it apart from the dealers?

hi all.

just taken the gal to my local garage and there were two faults.

 

1. maf sensor

 

2. fuel injection pump (which may be linked to the dodgey maf)

 

i took it to the dealer 1st, but they said they couldnt do anything till monday???? so i took it to my local garage, to which they had the computer to read the faults AND THEY DIDNT CHARGE ME. WHOOOOO HOOOOOO?

 

typical though the maf on my gal is the dearer one (there is two listed) @
